Giant Steps is a conference for health professionals, organised by Safer Care Victoria. The conference discusses challenges, leadership and improvements in delivering high-quality care.
In the healthcare industry, there has been a shift from the term 'patient' ("I receive care") to 'consumer' ("I am actively empowered to make choice about my health").
Most of the presentations were centered around lived experiences and stories. Live graphic recording was used as a key storytelling and engagement feature at the conference.
I scribed in the main plenary room, and the graphic recordings were projected onto massive screens at the end of each presentation, and during breaks. Delegates could access and download the graphic recordings via a custom-made app for the conference.
Keynote speakers included Australian of the Year, Dr Bronwyn King, motivational speaker and athlete, Turia Pitt, and former Chief Police Commissioner for Victoria, Christine Nixon.
